It is my hope that I can be of support and provide inspiration for your own personal wellness journey. Vitality Within is here to provide information on how to stay healthy in your body and mind. On the Blog page you will find topical information on general health and wellbeing. Under Services you will find details of how I might be able to help with specific regard to lupus.
Thank you for visiting vitalitywithin.com Here I would like to share a little bit of information about myself and my qualifications.
My Qualifications:

  • Master Practitioner Eating Disorders and Obesity (2010) from the National Centre for Eating Disorders.
  • Graduate Certificate in Psychosynthesis Foundations (2010) from the Psychosynthesis and Education Trust (PET, part of the University of East London).
  • MSc in Nutritional Medicine from the University of Surrey. (2002)
  • First class honours BSc from the University of Reading. (2000)
  • Registered member of the Nutrition Society UK.
  • Listed on the UK Voluntary Register of Nutritionists. (UKVRN)
  • My enthusiasm for holistic health (health of the whole person; body, mind, emotions and spirit) shows through in my work, whether written or when verbally consulting or counselling individuals and groups. Helping people to achieve healthy, active lifestyles, both physical and psychological, is something that I thoroughly enjoy. I strive to be very approachable, non-judgemental and sensitive with all of my clients and offer a safe and confidential environment.
My personal interest in nutrition and lifestyle interventions for lupus sufferers:

After around 12 years of a variety of symptoms I was diagnosed with "Lupus spectrum disorder" in July 2011. The diagnosis was both upsetting and a relief at the same time. After years of not going to see doctors for fear of being labeled a hypochondriac I could finally breathe and understand what was going on in my body and mind.
Being a nutritionist, with a passionate interest in nutrition and lifestyle interventions for the brain and mood, I took it upon myself to begin researching the medical databases for any evidence that nutrition or lifestyle changes might be helpful for sufferers of lupus. I was surprised that more wasn't available on general websites dealing with lupus, as I researched more deeply I found that there was indeed evidence to suggest that specific diet and lifestyle changes could potentially impact lupus positively. Making changes in my own life has helped me to control the symptoms of my lupus and I wanted to change my business from dealing with general nutrition to dealing specifically with lupus.
The nutrition knowledge I gained through my BSc, MSc, eating disorders and obesity qualifications, coupled with my psychology, philosophy and spiritual interests have all come together to enable my personal understanding of my lupus symptoms, and this continually grows. It is my desire to pass on my experience and provide information and help for others going through these, often isolating, issues.
Having completed a Graduate Certificate in Psychosynthesis Foundations as well as the eating disorders qualifications I feel as though it is the perfect time to merge my knowledge in nutrition with my personal interests in psychology and counseling to offer a truly integrative and holistic approach to wellness for those suffering with lupus. As stated in my disclaimer I am not offering a cure, or claiming I can heal. What I am offering is knowledge, backed up by science, support and as much information as possible. Through nutrition and lifestyle change, together with changes in personal thinking/psychology, I truly believe there is a way through many of the symptoms related to lupus.
