What Is Wellness?

 

‘Being well’ involves a balance of health between the mind, body and emotions.  I aim to provide tailored nutrition solutions and support for your own personal wellness journey.

 

Wellness is a state of being in healthy balance of mind, body, emotions and spirit which results in a feeling of ‘being well’.  Halbert L. Dunn(1) said that “wellness is a direction in progress toward an ever-higher potential of functioning” he also stated that wellness was “an integrated method of functioning which is orientated toward maximizing the potential of which the individual is capable.  It requires that the individual maintain a continuum of balance and purposeful direction within the environment where he is functioning

 

Factors that contribute to being healthy and happy are individual and varied but may involve concepts such as: nutrition, exercise and other health practices; spirituality; psychology or counselling to explore the mind; work; money and security; creativity; leisure; family and social support.

 

Wellness for me is a progression toward being my best possible self, doing my best not to compare myself to others and regularly checking in with my own feelings to see if I am making choices that empower me, those around me and the environment.

 

Living life to our fullest potential is not something that we often do, fear is a tyrannical ruler! Michael Korda said “In order to succeed, we must first believe that we can”.  Being well, or well being encompasses our physical health and our psychological, emotional and spiritual happiness.  It involves physically looking after our bodies, minds, our spirituality or family and friends, work, money etc….all in all the pursuit of a healthy, balanced lifestyle.  Dis-ease can occur in all parts of life.  It is my aim to help support you on your own personal journey to wellness.  We are all unique, whole individuals.  I believe that acceptance of ourselves, our bodies, thoughts and emotions, in our totality (what we may label as positive and negative) is a key factor in building self-esteem and wellness.  Seeing my clients as unique beings, helps me to provide tailored and trusted support.

 

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn’t serve the world. There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. You were born to manifest the glory of God that is within you. It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we’re liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others
